Avida Lattice Images

The following image is an example of what an avida lattice looks like during the course of a run at a reasonably low mutation rate.

The left panel is colored by genotype.
A a different color is assinged each genotype that has more than three organisims of that type. Genotypes that don't reach this threshold are colored dark blue.

The right panel depicts the fitness of each organism in the grid.
The X and Y axes are the grid location (corresponding to the right panel), while the height and color correspond to the log of the fitness. Most mutations are detrimental, and therefore result in the numerous downward spikes.

The 2D avida world shown is toroidal, so each edge wrap is connected to the opposite edge of the figure. This picture was taken at update 3100 of an 100x100 grid.

An AVI movie of this figure over time is available. It is 350 frames take every 10 updates durring the beginning of the run and is about 2 MB in file size.
